Magister Teknik Pengelolaan Bencana Alam / Master in Engineering in Natural Disaster Management

Program Studi MTPBA merupakan pengembangan dari Konsentrasi MPBA pada Program Studi S2 Teknik Sipil FT UGM. Konsentrasi ini telah mempunyai sejarah panjang sejak dilakukan kerjasama antara UGM-PU-JICA untuk menyelenggarakan degree training program dalam bidang pengelolaan bencana sediment (Sediment Related Natural Disaster Management). Program Studi MTPBA memperoleh akreditasi LAM TEKNIK Peringkat Unggul Staf pengajar MTPBA aktif dalam forum-forum ilmiah teknologi pengelolaan bencana alam, baik di dalam maupun luar negeri dalam rangka mengikuti perkembangan keilmuan teknologi kebencanaan di tingkat nasional maupun internasional serta memberikan kontribusi keilmuan hasil peneilitian yang telah dicapai.

Indonesia, as a vast archipelagic nation located at the convergence of several tectonic plates, is highly vulnerable to a wide range of natural disasters, including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, droughts, landslides, and tropical storms. The Master’s Program in Natural Disaster Management Engineering (MTPBA) was established to educate professionals with strong technical competencies in disaster management, with particular emphasis on disaster mitigation. The program was initially established in 2001 as a specialization within the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Toward the end of 2013, MTPBA became an independent study program. In the same year, it was designated as a Host Institution in Natural Disaster Engineering within the Japan–ASEAN education cooperation network AUN/SEED-Net (ASEAN University Network – Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network). As a host institution, the program admits students from various ASEAN countries, contributing to regional capacity building in disaster management engineering. Graduates of the Master’s Program in Natural Disaster Management Engineering are equipped with the expertise to conduct scientific analysis, evaluation, and synthesis in disaster management across all phases, including pre-disaster mitigation, emergency response, and post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction. The program places particular emphasis on disaster mitigation through technical and physical countermeasures, in accordance with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012.
